Columbus Stainless hosts Charity Golf Day

Columbus Stainless hosted its biennial CEO charity golf day on Thursday 30 March 2017 at the lush Middelburg Country Club golf course. Present at the Golf Day were a cross section of Chief Executive Officers and Senior Managers from key customers and suppliers within the stainless steel industry.

The objective of the event was to both offer a platform for professional networking opportunities for the stainless steel role players and to raise funds for local charities.

The charities were chosen based on a sustainable history of involvement in the community. In the area of education, the charity chosen was Paul Mthimunye Bursary Fund. The feeding scheme chosen was Feed a Child. A charity providing safe havens for orphaned children, the Middelburg Care village, was chosen as was a charity caring for disabled children so that they can realise their full potential – the Bethesda House of Hope.

The players enjoyed a variety of onfield activities in addition to the 18 hole golfing. One of the highlights was a canvas shot, where participants putted multi-coloured wet paint covered golf balls in various directions on to a canvas to create a unique tapestry of art that had every players’ character stamped on it. This spectacular work of art was later auctioned and the proceeds also went to charity.

After the game the participants had a dose of spectacular entertainment from a golf trick artist Michael Scholz who also doubled up as the MC at the dinner.

Columbus Stainless CEO, Mr Lucien Matthews, expressed delight at the success of the day and gratitude to all sponsorships that were received from long standing and new suppliers and customers.

“Being able to give back and help our community is at the core of our values and this was directly possible with the support of those who sponsored and participated in the event. It is with sincere gratitude to all who took part in this prestigious event and made it a great success. It is through partnerships like these that will ensure that Columbus Stainless continues to lead in the provision of world class stainless steel,” said Mr Lucien Matthews in his address at the dinner.

The golf course was in spectacular condition and the tone has been set for the next Columbus Stainless CEO charity golf day which will be held in 2019.
