One of the leading forces behind the food and beverage giant of Paarl, H.G. Molenaar and Company, Guus Molenaar, has died at the age of 77.
Guus was the son of the founder, Hugo Molenaar, who came to South Africa as a young technical engineer from the Netherlands in the 1930s.
HG Molenaar was founded in January 1949 as a company providing mechanical and engineering assistance to fruit farmers and the canning and wine industries in and around Paarl.
A graduate electrical engineer, Guus visited the US in 1967 to familiarise himself with new innovations and machinery of the canning trade, also securing agencies for these machines.
He is survived by his wife Margie, their sons Hugo and Mark, daughtersin- law Melanie and Yvette, and grandchildren Bianca, Kayla and Luke.
