MARIO FEDELE has recently joined Welding Technology Services in Germiston. His responsibility, as a professional engineer, is to assist in WTS’s function of training industry in the field of welding technology; and serve as a consultant to industry. Welding Technology Services was established in 1975, to offer a comprehensive programme of courses on welding to industry, by Mr Win Ferris who is also a graduated engineer.
Services range from training courses covering every aspect of welding for engineers and technicians, to welding consultancy, and practical training of welders in their school in Germiston.
With assistance from experts in other fields of technology, additional subjects are covered. One example of this is a course in non-destructive testing of welds which is run by Mr. Eric Guest.
Welding is generally not considered to be a complicated operation, and in many instances it consists merely of welding parts made from mild steel together by means of arc welding.
However, in some instances welding becomes a critical operation requiring proper care in design, execution and quality control of the process. Welding Technology Services see themselves filling the gap in supplying formal training in the welding field.
