Macdem group company, Jacksons, is to spend R8,5 million on a new head office and warehousing complex on a recently acquired five hectare site in Sandton, Transvaal.
The new 12 000 sq m metals warehouse, the largest of its kind in Southern Africa, will accommodate up to R20 million worth of stock at one time. Together with the 5 000 sq m office block it will be ready for occupation at the beginning of 198s and will be well situated at its location adjacent to the Ben Schoeman highway to service its 7 000 customers.
Jacksons management recognizes the need for progressive facilities in order to maintain and improve the company’s position as market leader providing high quality customer service in the stockholding and distribution of aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, stainless steels, and high technology semi-manufactured products.
Mr Colin Jenner and Mr Peter Feinberg, joint managing directors of Jacksons, have indicated that the well-wooded location lends itself to developing an aesthetically pleasing complex in keeping with the area in which it will be established. Messrs Haris, Fels, Jankes and Partners has been commissioned to plan the complex with this priority in mind. Recently, two directors of Jacksons undertook a tour of the United States and Europe together with the architects to evaluate modern warehousing concepts for the project.
