The development of Alloyfab, just eighteen months old, is growth in its purest form.

Captained by Frikkie van Vuuren, one of South Africa’s leading Stainless Steel fabricators, Alloyfab have doubled the size of their factory to 3000 sq. metres. Furthermore Angus Houston, who spent several years with Southern Cross Steel acquiring invaluable experience in the stainless steel industry, has recently joined Alloyfab to add further muscle to the marketing of Alloyfab.

Alloyfab are primary fabricators of Heat Exchangers, Pressure Vessels, Storage Tanks, Jacketed Vessels and Piping, in the complete Southern Cross range of stainless steels. Alloyfab also fabricates exotic steels such as the Hastelloy range, Titanium and Nickel Alloys such as 904L and 2RK65. In fact Basil Goldswain, head of the Special Alloy Division of R. Jackson and Co., recently said “Alloyfab are at present fabricating more Hastelloy than any other workshop in the country”.

Alloyfab believe that a comprehensive design service is of prime importance to their customers. To improve this service, Alloyfab have recently installed a Hewlett Packard Computer whose primary function is to offer a one-stop scientific design service. The computer is constantly programmed with fluctuating steel, consumable and labour prices.

Human error and consequently costly time delays are now history. Quality control, stock control, speedy facilitation of orders and enquiries and accurate cost estimating are now part of Alloyfabs new service. Alloyfab uses the service of one of the country’s leading consulting design engineers for design-problem solving and technical innovation.

Frikkie van Vuuren says of this service “With the recent purchase of our computer and our close working association with our consulting design engineers, I believe we now have something really special to offer in the field of stainless steel fabrication and design.” A recent job undertaken by Alloyfab was the urgent repair of a vessel in Hastelloy C-276 for a well know chemical corporation in Sasolburg. The vessel was originally imported from Holland and had incurred weld defects on the dished ends. These dished ends had to be removed and then heat treated. Following heat treatment the dished ends were then re-welded and X-rays taken. Just 80 hours after arriving in the workshop, the vessel was repaired and delivered back to site.

Alloyfab, as witnessed by their growth, performance and constant innovation, is emerging as a powerful force in the stainless steel and special alloy fabrication industry.
