Special alloy steels are increasingly specified in South Africa for high integrity applications and as end-users increasingly place fabrication requirements with local industry.
In recognition of this growing demand, Jacksons have appointed Basil Goldswain as Market Development Engineer, Special Alloys with the brief to develop applications for the special alloys handled by the company, notably 904L.
Basil Goldswain is well known to the local stainless steel industry resulting from his four years with the Southern Cross Steel Company, much of which he spent in a market development capacity. He holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from Wits, and was originally for two years with the Anglo American research laboratories. Basil Goldswain’s appointment to Jacksons (where he works out of the Johannesburg office, but with a National brief) has heralded a new marketing drive in special alloys, of which the 904L conferences, reportedly separately in this publication, were a part.

Mr Basil Goldswain, who has recently been appointed Market Development Engineer, Special Alloys at Jacksons.
