Columbus Stainless has headed the call by Government to train the youth of South Africa. Starting in 2015 Columbus recruited and trained learners in excess of it’s own requirements. From 2018 Columbus will have a number of these learners that have completed their training programmes and will be able to enter the world of work.
The available learners have undergone stringent recruitment processes with Columbus Stainless prior to their enrolment in the various training programmes. All learners passed Grade 12 with maths and science and are fully capable to run and manage automated production equipment. the learners have an excellent understanding of what it means to work in manufacturing and were trained in a 3 shift environment.
The learners have obtained their qualifications and have gained 2 years’s work experience with Columbus Stainless. They gained experience to work independently and met all the stringent work requirements from Columbus Stainless.
The Qualifications obtained by these learners include but is not limited to:
Steelmaker
- Metals Production NQF Level 2 (Foundational Learner Competence (Mathematics and Communications) Health and Safety, First Aid, Fire Fighting, Crane Licence, Basic Equipment Care, Quality Training, Policy Training, Working in a Team, First Line Maintenance, Metal Process to name a few key skills.) They have completed 1 year experience in the Manufacturing environment.
Artisans
- Trade Tested Artisans (Millwright, Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Diesel Mechanic, Electrician, Instrument Mechanician, Boiler Maker, Rigger). all of our Artisans are trained at an accredited Training Centre and have passed their trade tests. They have gained 1 year post trade test experience in our various plant areas.
