Reconstitution of S.A.S.S.D.A.

As all members will know, an extraordinary general meeting of the Association was held on Thursday, 26th May.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Committee of Management’s proposals in regard to the reconstitution of the Association to allow S.A.S.S.D.A. to carry out effectively its main objective – the development of the stainless steel market.

To obtain our objective we need not only an increased income but the active support of all members.  The Association is like a house of cards:  its strength is the strength of all members acting together, its weakness the weakness of any one individual member.

The annual general meeting of the Association will be held at the Wanderers Club (Tudor Room), on Thursday, 18th August, 1966 at 6 p.m.

This meeting is likely to be one of the most significant in the Association’s history, being the first full gathering after the extraordinary general meeting at the end of May.  We earnestly request all members to make a special effort to attend the annual general meeting so that the Association can move forward as one effective organisation with the full support of all its members.

What is SASSDA Doing?

This issue contains more articles and notes on the architectural uses of stainless steels than usual.  We make no apologies for drawing attention to this very important field of application in this way.

It has been said often enough that Southern Africa is far behind the rest of the world in its use of stainless steels; a review of the per capita consumption figures for South Africa and countries such as Sweden, the United States of America and the United Kingdom shows that there is much to be done in the Republic in particular and Southern Africa generally.

The marked increase in the number of multi-storey building projects in South Africa is not an encouragement but a challenge to the stainless steel industry in South Africa.  We must not feel diffident about this matter; there is a tendency to think that everyone who should know about the architectural uses of stainless steels is in fact fully informed on all aspects – including the economic aspect.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Previously, the question, “What is S.A.S.S.D.A. doing?” has been posed.  We are doing all we can to focus attention on what we consider to be one of the most challenging aspects of stainless steel development at this time.  Through our members we have the ability to accept this challenge.  The opportunity will not be lost through want of endeavor; let it not be lost through want of action.
