Stainless Steel in Service

ELEVATOR METAL– The first major use of stainless steel in elevators was in the Philadelphia Savings Fund Building completed in 1932.  Today the elevator-escalator industry continued to make use of nickel stainless steel in a growing number of applications, including use for car station panels, car and corridor position indicator panels, hall lanterns, traffic director’s panels and hand-rails, as well as elevator doors, door frames and cabs.  This is due to the metal’s superior resistance to abrasion and impact, ease of maintenance and proven durability.

CURTAIN WALLS IN SPAIN – The outstanding success of the 18/8 stainless steel curtain walling installed at the Hotel Luz Palacio and the paneling of the Ministry of Agriculture building in Madrid has encouraged great interest among architects and building contractors in Spain.  It seems likely that 18/8 nickel stainless steel will be used for curtain walling in many other buildings planned or projected in other parts of the country.
